USB current limits?

Hi - I’m new to AstroArch and am trying to work out how to set current limits. I am using a 5V 5A power supply, but provided through GPIO, so the power is not picked up automatically.

On Raspbian, I could use raspi-config to disable the USB power limitation - and so could presumably add usb_max_current_enable=1 to /boot/config.txt to do the same thing.

On Raspbian, I would also use rpi-eeprom-config to set PSU_MAX_CURRENT=5000.

Is there a way to set this on AstroArch too, or is the usb_max_current_enable=1 sufficient?

Thank you,

Colin

Hi,

It’s enough to add usb_max_current_enable=1 to config.txt.

Stéphane

Thanks, Stéphane. I’m not sure this is right though - see this Pi forum post. It seems that the PSU_MAX_CURRENT=5000 sets the total current available. Having said that, I suspect the sum of currents going to most astronomical devices will be well below 3000mA which seems to be the default.

I guess since this is in the eprom, it could be set on Raspbian, then would carry over to AstroArch.

Thank you again for your reply,

Colin
