Gemini Focuser Pro EAF

I have bought one of these EAF Focusers and waiting for it to arrive, from the design it looks like a ZWO EAF clone.

From what I understand it works with a Serial CH340 Controller.

What driver do I use in Stellarmate?

Thanks.

Just an update on this:

I got this working using the myFocuserPro 2 Profile in Stellarmate.

Basically the focuser is very well made, with a range of couplers. It also comes with a IR sensor cable, which you can use a Wireless remote which also is included.and the temperature probe, which seems a better quality then the ZWO varient.
I’ll post up some images of the focuser later.

Hi, I’m thinking about getting this focuser. Keep us updated.

Here is the image of the focuser.

I just got one of these as well, I confirm that it uses the MyFocuserPro2 driver. Unfortunately, this means they are violating Robert Brown’s copyright: “Permission is granted for personal and Academic/Educational use only.” so I won’t be buying another and discourage anyone else from doing so.

Did they duplicate the actual plans provided are are they using the MIT licensed software to drive their solution?

This is too bad. I wish they used one of the other focuser protocols instead. Moonlight seems pretty well documented, and not super hard to implement.

Apologies, for not replying earlier to this thread, as after the forum update, my username was not authenticating correctly.

Actually to be fair to the suppliers of Gemini Focuser Pro and not jumping on a high horse.

In waiting for the supplier to provide me with the detailed driver under the INDI platform, I was trying out different drivers and came across the myFocuser Pro 2 driver which worked successfully.

However, the supplier did provide a different driver contrary to what I had used. They advised the Arduino Focuser Profile, Indi_duino, manufacturer DIY. In reply to contacting the supplier - myFocuser Pro 2 is not what they advised, let me get this clear to anyone buying this EAF and nor should we be jumping the gun, thinking they might have infringed any copyright notices.

Unfortunately I cannot find the Indi_duino profile in KStars.

I can only think the myFocuser Pro 2 and Arduino Focuser Profile share the same open source Library files or scripted similar.

So I resort to using the myFocuser Pro 2 driver for now!

It’s under the “AUX” section of your profile definitions and not under the EAF section.
Same place you set up your GPS, Pegasus PowerBox and such.

Since I can’t edit my post (the software gives me a 404 error) I’ll add this to my prior post.
The driver exists.
The driver does not work.
The only driver that works is the MyFocuser2 Pro.

This raises questions on whether they did use more from the MyFocuserPro2 project than they wan to let on.
The same serial port is set for both drivers. The same com port speed is set. The driver they said would work never connects. The MyFocuserPro2 one immediately connects.

I can run the Gemini EAF with the current driver for it.

I contacted Robert, the dev for MyFocuserPro2:

Hi
I believe your INDI driver works with this focuser. I do not however wish to take advantage of your goodwill and simply use your code without your permission. I am of course more than willing to make a donation. If not, I will have to revert to windows, something I am loathe to do.
Thanks for a great project and TIA for any response.[/quote]
